Together in Remembrance
What is the significance of this cemetery?
This is the only known former slave cemetery located along Route 66 in Oklahoma. It serves as the final resting place for African Americans—many of them formerly enslaved—who lived, worked, and helped build the region. It is a sacred space that preserves an essential part of Oklahoma and American history.
Can I visit the cemetery?
Yes, visitors are welcome during daylight hours. We ask all guests to be respectful, avoid disturbing grave sites, and preserve the tranquility of this historic resting place.
Is the cemetery still active or accepting new burials?
Although the cemetery is considered a historic site, new burials are being accepted in various gardens across the grounds. All gardens are maintained for preservation, education, and commemoration purposes.
How can I support preservation efforts?
You can contact us to donate, volunteer during cleanup days, or help spread awareness of the cemetery’s historical importance. All support helps us maintain the grounds and fund educational outreach.
